All About Leland

Leland was the most amazing person that ever graced the Earth.

Where do I even begin to describe this wonderful boy?  We struggled to get pregnant and after having miscarriages we were so thrilled that Leland came into this world.  He was a preemie at 34 weeks and weighed 4lb 13 oz and was 19 inches long.  He was perfect and healthy.  He was smart from the beginning.  He knew his ABCs, could count to 10, new all of his shapes and 10 site words before his first bithday.  We knew from then on that he would do great things in this world.  Leland loved learning and was a sponge.  He loved the history channel, the weather channel, JAWS and any shark really, Tremors, natural disasters and any Adam Sandler movie.  He loved playing Minecraft and loved Legos.  His favorite thing was to build Lego Titanics.  He was reading chapter books in Kindergarten and was eager to learn.  He had a heart of gold and was always out to help others.  He was my miracle baby and my best friend.  I was very over protective of him but the one thing he loved to do was play in the dirt.  He would build volcanoes starting at age three.  He even asked for baking soda and vinegar for his birthday so he could make volcano eruptions.  He was prefectly healthy but this evil parasite defeated him.  He fought so hard to beat this.  He was the strongest person I knew.  He was the most loving and caring child.  He wanted everyone to be his friend.  He was also the most forgiving person I had ever met.  He never met a stranger and would talk to everyone.  He touched so many lives during his short time here on Earth and touched even more after his passing.  He fought so hard for 2 weeks at the children's hospital against Balamuthia Mandrillaris, a brain eating amoeba.  This is the hardest thing that I will ever face in my entire life.  No one should have to bury their child.  I watched him slip away from me.  I watched him leave me.  My best friend is gone.  I'm bringing awareness about this "rare" parasite.  I don't believe they have a good protocol and this wouldn't be as "rare" as they say it is if they checked for it more and checked for it sooner.  No one is safe from this evil.  I am writing a book and will not only be sharing what happened to my Leland and what I think needs to happen to protect others, but I will be sharing who Leland was.  I will be talking about all of the memories I have of him.  I want everyone to know just how special he was.  I long for the day that I am able to be with him again.  Thank you all who have read about Leland, who support us, who have helped us and most of all who have prayed for us.  Please be sure to keep an eye out for my book (although it is going to take awhile to get it out there) and please be sure to read about paying it forward on the homepage.  I want to spread Leland's love around the world and bring faith back into those who have lost it.  Thank you all and God Bless.
